Day 01: Lahad Datu – Tabin Wildlife Reserve (L/D)

Your adventure begins with a pickup from the east coast town of Lahad Datu, followed by a scenic 1.5-hour road transfer to Tabin Wildlife Reserve.

Upon arrival, enjoy a guide briefing and video presentation introducing Tabin’s remarkable natural heritage. Check in to the Tabin Wildlife Resort, an attractive timber lodge nestled beside the Lipad River. Each room features a private balcony, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, and hot water shower—comforting luxuries in the heart of the rainforest. The resort surroundings are rich with birdlife, insects, and small mammals, often spotted right around the lodge.

Discover the diverse jungle herbs, including endemic species traditionally used by local communities for medicinal purposes. Visit the Tabin Visitor Centre to learn about conservation efforts and gain insights into the birds, insects, and wildlife found within the reserve.

In the afternoon, head out towards the Elephant Trail. Along the way, stop at the compost bin to learn how food waste is recycled into natural fertilizer. Continue to the active Lipad Mud Volcano, a natural mineral salt lick frequently visited by wildlife and birds. Explore the elevated mud area, observe animal footprints, and for the adventurous, experience the volcanic mud—believed to promote healthy skin. Trek back to the main road afterward.

After dinner, embark on an exciting night safari to search for nocturnal wildlife and birds. On clear nights, gaze up at Tabin’s dark skies, identify constellations, and enjoy the tranquility of the rainforest.

As your second day begins with a guided hike to the “View Point” and “Coffin Cliff,” an old Dusun Subpan burial site, you will awaken to the mesmerizing sounds of Bornean Gibbons. Before enjoying lunch at the Lodge, take a restorative dip in the Natural Jacuzzi pool. Optional afternoon activities include going on a guided jungle hike or, if the weather permits, taking an exhilarating one-hour water tubing trip down the Danum River. Interesting indoor activities will be planned during rainy seasons, giving your rainforest experience a cultural twist of surprise. Or do whatever you want with your free time. Discover the forest’s hidden treasures by taking a Night Drive or Night Walk as dusk draws near.

Day 02: Rainforest Exploration & Wildlife Encounters (B/L/D)

Begin the day with an early morning bird walk, an excellent opportunity to spot some of Tabin’s nearly 300 bird species.

After breakfast, drive into the core area of the reserve and climb the Birdwatching Tower for a panoramic forest view. Continue trekking through lush rainforest trails to Lipad Waterfall. Enjoy a refreshing swim in the natural pool or relax beneath the cascading waters. Guests may also explore the surrounding vegetation or simply unwind in nature.

On the return journey, stop by the iconic Tabin Giant Tree for photos or group pictures.

In the afternoon, relax with a Tabin Rainforest Foot Soak, made from a natural herbal blend to soothe tired muscles after jungle trekking.

As evening approaches, join a dusk wildlife drive to spot animals and birds becoming active at twilight. After dinner, take part in a guided night walk near the resort to search for sleeping birds, frogs, and other nocturnal wildlife.

Day 03: Departure (B)

After breakfast, receive your Mud Certificate as a souvenir of your Tabin experience. Free and easy until check-out.
Guests may opt for an early morning dawn drive to observe wildlife active at this time of day (optional).
