Day 1 – Journey into the Peat Swamp Wilderness

Your adventure begins with a morning departure from Kuching between 8:00am and 9:00am, traveling through scenic countryside toward the quiet coastal region of Maludam. As the urban landscape fades, rural villages and riverside scenery set the tone for the journey ahead. Upon arrival at the Maludam area, you are warmly welcomed and settled into a local homestay or simple lodge near the river.

In the afternoon, the experience truly begins with a leisurely river cruise through mangrove-lined waterways. The dark, tea-colored water reflects the surrounding forest as the boat glides silently forward. Keep watch along the riverbanks, where proboscis monkeys, silvered langurs, macaques, and birds are often seen resting or feeding. The peaceful atmosphere offers excellent opportunities for photography and wildlife observation.

As evening approaches, the forest grows calm and the river glows under the soft light of sunset. Dinner is served at the homestay, featuring simple local dishes. The night is quiet and relaxing, accompanied by the natural sounds of the surrounding forest.

Day 2 – Morning Wildlife & Return to Kuching

The day begins early with a gentle boat ride into Maludam National Park, when wildlife activity is at its peak. Morning mist often drifts above the river, creating a serene and almost mystical atmosphere. This is the best time to spot monkeys, birds, and other riverine wildlife emerging for the day.

After the cruise, return to the village for breakfast and some free time to enjoy the peaceful surroundings or take a short walk around the community. Check out from the homestay at 11:00am and then the journey back to Kuching begins, en-route lunch and arriving in the late afternoon with lasting memories of one of Sarawak’s most untouched natural landscapes.
